The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has brought his campaign for a production-driven economy to Italy, where he met stakeholders to discuss ideas on economic partnership, institutional development and young prospects.
This was stated by Obi in a statement issued through his X-Handle, upon his arrival in Italy for his international discussions and engagements ahead of the 2027 elections.
The former governor of Anambra state said the conversations centred on areas that would improve the country’s economic capabilities, especially through tapping into the potential of the enormous youthful population in Nigeria.
He said there was an urgent need for the country to move away from a consumption-based economy to a production, investment and enterprise-driven one.
Obi stated that continued investment in education, health care and enterprise growth would be vital in developing a viable society where young Nigerians may lead productive lives.
He also underlined the necessity for a national system that promotes skill, character and integrity instead of what he called criminality, connections and cronyism.
“Our national challenges are immense, but the combined strength and resilience of our people are immeasurably greater,” Obi added.
He said his meetings in Italy left him “encouraged by the ideas that were exchanged and what I would call a shared determination among Nigerians and members of the international community to see Nigeria succeed”.
He said he will continue his foreign discussions as he meets Nigerians and stakeholders abroad on ideas for national development.
He reiterated his campaign mantra of “A New Nigeria is POssible”.
