The Federal Government has launched a nine member committee to implement Renewed Hope Mass Transit Bus Scheme to reduce the cost of transport and ease the daily commuting stress of federal public personnel.
The committee was launched on Wednesday, September 9, 2026 by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Olumuyiwa Enitan Abel with a directive to fast pace the deployment of 100 electric mass transit vehicles for workers across chosen routes.
During the pilot phase, 10 electric buses will first be deployed on chosen routes to test the operational model before the plan is expanded. The project is designed to boost workers welfare, cut down on commuting expenses and raise productivity.
Abel charged the committee to work with urgency, transparency and accountability, stressing that the implementation of the program should not be frustrated by unnecessary bureaucracy. He also urged members to come up with an efficient framework for execution, identify the right pathways and build a transparent system for enrolment and payment. .
The group is also required to recommend cheap rates and create steps to ensure the safety, security and accessibility of the buses including facilities for persons with impairments.
The committee is chaired by the Permanent Secretary, Service Welfare Office, Dr Abdul Sule Garba while Mr Nura Umar of the National Automotive Design and Development Council is co chairman.
Other members are Arc. Joy Baderin, Director, IMD; Emmanuel Agodi, Deputy Director, EIR; Gbenga Olowoyo, representing the JNPSNC; Joke Onireti, Bright Idehenre, Bimbo Ayere and Chinyere Nwosu, who acts as secretary.
The electric buses were deployed under the Renewed Hope Transit Program on August 26. The Federal Government claimed the pilot phase would offer lessons for the broader introduction of the buses and assist build a sustainable transport system for public officials.
