Liverpool had to come from behind twice in a dramatic 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest at Anfield on Saturday, leaving new Reds boss Andoni Iraola still searching for his first Premier League win.
Forest did strike first in the 24th minute as Ndoye rounded off a rapid offensive move to put the visitors a goal to the good. Liverpool believed they had equalised through Florian Wirtz but the goal was ruled out for offside after a VAR review.
Liverpool did manage to get back in the game in the second half. Alexander Isak netted his first Premier League goal for the club in the 60th minute to level with a Cody Gakpo assist.
Forest had their noses back in front 10 minutes later. Liverpool custodian Alisson Becker was ruled to have fouled Neco Williams in the area and captain Morgan Gibbs-White stepped up to score the penalty to make it 2-1.
Just when Forest looked about to claim a memorable win at Anfield, Liverpool delivered another late show.
Summer signing Víctor Muñoz rescued a point for the hosts with a thunderous attempt that deflected into the net in the 82nd minute, an outstanding start to his Anfield career.
The Spaniard’s strike triggered a late push from Liverpool for a winner but Forest held tight to grab a precious point.
The result means Iraola has now drawn his first two Premier League games in charge of Liverpool, with back-to-back 2-2 draws. The Reds also came from behind to draw their opening league game 2-2 away at Newcastle United.
The result will give Liverpool mixed feelings. Twice they showed resilience to battle back but to concede two goals at home will lead to more doubts about their defensive organization.
Forest will take plenty of encouragement from a performance in which they twice led and threatened a third successive victory at Anfield.
