The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has debunked a viral rumour that young people living around Nyanya in the FCT have been selling their kidneys for money.
The report, which went viral on the social media, also claimed that an agent in the neighbouring Mararaba was involved in the buying of human kidneys.
But the FCT Police Command claimed it has neither received or confirmed any report of sales of kidney or human organ trafficking in Nyanya or its environs.
In a statement, the Command said, “The police have not issued any statement or official communication to confirm the allegations.
The police consequently appealed to citizens and social media users to ignore the viral report and to avoid disseminating unconfirmed material which could create fear, panic and unneeded anxiety in the neighbourhood.
The Command noted that the spread of unsubstantiated information could create needless tension among residents and appealed to members of the public to always rely on verified information from the relevant authorities on security issues.
In the meanwhile, the police have implored members of the public with credible information on suspected human organs trafficking or any other illegal activity in the Federal Capital Territory to report to the nearest police station without delay.

The Command restated its dedication to looking into reasonable security issues and called for inhabitants to work together with law authorisation organisations rather than spreading unconfirmed reports on the web.
