President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has greeted elder statesman and former military President, General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida (rtd) on his 85th birthday, saying the ex Military leader has affected Nigeria in ways no other leader has done.
President Tinubu made this known in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy Bayo Onanuga.
Gen Babangida was praised as an extraordinary leader whose remarkable military career was crowned by his leadership of the nation after the 1985 coup, reported Daily Trust.
Whether you like him or not, former President Babangida has influenced Nigeria in ways no other leader has. His 8 years in power left indelible scars on our political, economic and physical landscape.
“He built the country’s economy, created permanent infrastructure and a number of agencies and institutions that continue to serve the national interest. “Many states in the federation might not be existing today but for his foresight, wisdom and sense of equity and fairness.”
The President said the name and legacy of General Babangida would remain indelible in the history of Nigeria because of his tremendous contributions to national progress.
General Babangida who lives a tranquil life at his Minna Hilltop home in Niger State, yet gives essential advise and wisdom to the country even after his retirement. The president stated, “His advice and wise counsel are an inspiration to our younger generations.
May you continue to have grace, excellent health, and renewed strength. “May Allah Almighty keep you with us for many more years to come,” the president continued.
