The Delta State administration has directed the immediate and indefinite suspension of the Commissioner for works, Highway and Urban Roads, Mr. Izeze Reuben.
In a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Kingsley Eze Emu, the Delta State government said the suspension would give room for security agencies to carry out a fair investigation into allegations linking the commissioner to the recent assault of the Senior Special Assistant on Protocol, Simon Mudi popularly known as Temple, at the Petroleum Training Institute, PTI, Effurun.
Channels TV claims that the incident at PTI happened during a political meeting at the institute, with Mudi attacked and beaten, receiving injuries in the process.
The proper security agencies are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault and the identities of the individuals involved.
Mudi, an adviser to the Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, was hurt in the altercation, reports have said. The event has raised questions about the circumstances surrounding the clash and calls for a thorough inquiry.
The Delta State government in the statement said the suspension of the commissioner was to enable security services carry out their investigation without interference and to determine the facts surrounding the occurrence.
It stressed that the state government is committed to guaranteeing public safety, upholding law and order and protecting the sanctity of human lives.
The Delta State administration said the promise is in force in all cases, including those involving state institutions and officials.
