The National Leader of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dr. Chike Okogwu, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to put governance before of politics by addressing the economic hardship and security concerns facing Nigerians.
Sunday Guardian reported that Okogwu, reacting to the recent comments of the president on political contestation, said Nigerians were looking up to the government for decisive actions on matters that impact their everyday lives and not political exchanges.
He cited growing inflation, high unemployment, increased insecurity and the rising cost of living as major national issues that must be addressed now, warning that millions of citizens still face serious economic hardship.
Okogwu also highlighted concerns that, “We continue to marginalise Persons with Disability, lots of them still face barriers to get access to quality health care, education, transportation, employment and other essential public services.
He dared the federal government and state governments to move beyond promises by implementing the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act to the letter, insisting that inclusive policies must translate into tangible improvements in the lives of people living with disabilities.
The ADC leader highlighted his party’s fight to create a society where Persons with Disabilities have equal rights and opportunities through accessible infrastructure, inclusive education, quality healthcare, economic empowerment and increased representation in governance.
He said the real legacy of any administration would not be defined by electoral successes but by its capacity to alleviate the suffering of citizens, fortify democratic institutions and unite the country.
“Nigerians want leadership that gives solutions. “This is the time to address hunger, unemployment, insecurity and the challenges of vulnerable groups, especially Persons with Disabilities,” he stated.
