Two men have been detained by the Edo State Police Command for reportedly fabricating their own kidnap to extort N4 million from their family members in Igarra, Akoko-Edo Local Government Area.
Operatives of the Igarra Police Division arrested the suspects, Lucky Alabi, 48, and Taiye Enahoro, 37, both from Uneme Akpama community, on June 26.
The conspiracy was hatched on June 23, when Enahoro allegedly called Alabi’s relations, falsely alleging that Alabi had been abducted and demanded a ransom of ₦4 million for his release.
The police identified the ruse using digital tracking and intelligence before any money changed hands.
The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikedem said the suspects had admitted to their role in the fake kidnapping. “The suspects have confessed to their respective roles in the staged kidnapping and will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigation,” the statement read.

The police command reiterated its commitment to bringing to justice all perpetrators of criminal activities.
Residents are asked to be alert and report any suspicious actions to the security officials without delay.
