The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has said strategic safety measures made in Dangote Cement’s transport operations have resulted to a dramatic drop in crashes involving the company’s trucks across the country.
Accidents involving Dangote trucks fell by 56 per cent from the first quarter of 2025 to the first quarter of 2026, according to figures published during an appreciation visit by executives of the Dangote Group to the FRSC National Headquarters in Abuja.
The statistics showed that the number of documented crashes reduced from 25 instances in Q1 2025 to 11 incidents in Q1 2026 after the recommendations of a Safety System Gap Analysis carried out by the FRSC in September 2025.
Fatalities from collisions also plummeted.
The number of deaths declined from 35 to 14 in the time under consideration, representing a 60 percent reduction, while the number of injured persons decreased from 89 to 42, representing a 52 percent reduction.
The safety audit conducted by the FRSC had shown some operational flaws in the company’s transport system, including speed limits violations, inadequate driver rest management, overloading and weak safety monitoring devices.
Speaking during the visit, Dangote Group Head of Transport, Mr Murillo Silva, thanked the FRSC for what he termed a competent and powerful intervention.
The collaboration between the firm and the road safety agency was yielding tangible results and helping to rebrand the Dangote fleet as a benchmark for transport safety compliance in Africa, he said.
Both institutions, said Silva, had a strong goal to raising safety standards in Nigeria’s transport industry.
Reacting to the development, the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed highlighted the outcome as a proof that data-driven initiatives and institutional collaboration remained crucial in decreasing road crashes and saving lives.
He praised the Dangote Group for accepting the recommendations of the audit and advised other fleet operators to put in place proactive safety measures to improve operating standards and prevent crashes on the Nigerian roads.
The gratitude visit was led by top executives of the Dangote Group transport management team.
