Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has announced he would quit the club at the end of the 2025/26 season, bringing an end to a historic decade in charge of the Premier League giants.
There are various confirmations from club statements and prominent international sites that Guardiola will step down after 10 years at the Etihad Stadium, during which he developed Manchester City into one of the most powerful teams in world football.
The 55-year-old Spanish coach departs having won 20 major trophies with City including six Premier League crowns, a UEFA Champions League and several domestic cups. The club is closing a chapter and his last game will probably be against Aston Villa.
Guardiola allegedly told players and staff of his decision before the last games of the season, saying his cycle at the club had naturally come to an end. He still has time on his contract but he is likely to go on his own volition and City are already making plans for a change in leadership.
Enzo Maresca, who was his assistant and is now a manager in his own right, is widely reported to be the favourite to take over from him at Manchester City.
Guardiola’s exit closes one of the most successful managerial eras in modern football history, when he revolutionized English football with his tactical philosophy, possession-based domination and tireless pursuit of greatness.
