Former Bayelsa State Governor and Senator representing Bayelsa West, Seriake Dickson has dismissed charges questioning the legality of the National Democratic Coalition, NDC, stressing that the group was officially formed in conformity with the law.
Dickson responded to objections and accusations in some places that the alliance was either unlawfully created or that it lacks legal legitimacy. He dismissed such assertions as “propaganda” meant to mislead the public and undermine the group’s goals.
“The National Democratic Coalition has met all legal and procedural requirements for registration,” the senator told reporters. He emphasized the coalition remains a credible vehicle for political activity and advocacy.
The public should not believe the falsehoods spread by propagandists. “The NDC is duly registered and it is operating within the confines of the law,” Dickson added.
The former governor said attempts to undermine the alliance are politically motivated, adding that such tales are meant to create confusion and weaken opposition voices ahead of future political developments.
The NDC debate, political analysts say, mirrors larger tensions in Nigeria’s political landscape, especially as new alliances and coalitions continue to spring up.
The skeptics have continued to challenge the structure and purpose of the coalition, but Dickson’s remarks serve to bolster the faith of the supporters, who see the NDC as a legitimate forum for political involvement and transformation.
