Following reports of strikes linked to the ongoing US/Israel–Iran confrontation, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said that Nigeria stands with Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, and Jordan.
He emphasized that Nigeria is firmly committed to peace, restraint, and global stability, and he stressed that diplomacy is still the best way to solve international problems.
While receiving Letters of Credence from nine ambassadors and high commissioners from countries like Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Sudan, Namibia, Rwanda, Somalia, Argentina, and Congo at the State House in Abuja, Tinubu made the comments.
Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, said that the President utilized the event to reaffirm Nigeria’s commitment to peaceful coexistence and closer cooperation with other countries.
“The world needs peace, love, and calm. “We all stand together in that region,” the President remarked, showing sympathy for Gulf countries that have been harmed by recent tensions.
The ambassadors of Qatar and Saudi Arabia, as well as other senior diplomats who had just been given their credentials in Nigeria, were among the envoys who submitted their credentials.
Tinubu reminded the diplomats that Nigeria is still dedicated to improving its relationship with other countries and working together on commerce, security, innovation, and development.
He said that the economic reforms his government is making are meant to make Nigeria a more attractive place for investment and strategic partnerships.
“You are coming to Nigeria at a very important time in our national history… designed to make Nigeria a more competitive place for investment and long-term growth,” he added.
The President also talked on Nigeria’s foreign policy goals, such as developing young people, getting the diaspora involved, making the region more unified, and promoting democratic governance, especially through the Economic Community of West African States.
He said again that Nigeria is committed to working with other countries to solve global problems including climate change, terrorism, and economic inequality.
Tinubu also told the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other relevant government institutions to make sure that the new ambassadors get full diplomatic support while they are in Nigeria.
The Ambassador of Qatar spoke for the diplomats and thanked the President for the welcome. He also promised that their countries would have greater ties with Nigeria.
