President Donald Trump has fired Attorney General Pam Bondi in a surprise cabinet shake-up. This is one of the biggest changes in his government in the last few weeks.
Multiple international sources say that Bondi was fired because people in the White House were unhappy with how she handled important problems, especially the contentious release of papers about convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Sources say that Trump was getting more and more angry over what he saw as a lack of progress in pursuing his political foes and lawmakers’ criticism of the Justice Department’s actions under Bondi’s leadership.
Even though she was fired, Trump publicly called Bondi a “loyal friend” and “patriot,” pointing out her work to reduce crime while she was in office. He also said that she would move to a private sector job that hasn’t been revealed yet.
While a permanent replacement is found, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche will serve as Acting Attorney General.
In her response, Bondi thanked the people for the chance to serve and said she would make sure the transfer went well in the coming weeks.
Her departure comes at a time when the administration is facing more political unrest, such as the recent firing of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and continuous congressional scrutiny of how the Justice Department works.
Analysts think that this change shows that Trump’s cabinet is once again unstable and might change the administration’s legal and political approach before the next round of legislative battles.
