The Defence Headquarters has put troops on alert across the country in preparation for the Easter celebrations, promising Nigerians that security will be tighter.
The DHQ also said that continued support from the US is making counter-terrorism operations stronger, and that there will be a visible effect in the next several weeks.
throughout a briefing for media yesterday in Abuja, Major General Michael Onoja, the Director of Defence Media Operations, told people that troops would be more alert throughout the Easter celebrations.
The PUNCH says that Onoja said the Armed Forces had already put people on watch all throughout the country to stop any security breaches during the holidays.
He also said that comparable steps had been taken during other holidays, such as Christmas and Eid-el-Fitr, and would continue to be taken.
“We know that security activities normally pick up over the holidays. The military authority tells everyone to stay watchful. He said, “This time will not be different.”
He stressed that security services would not let their guard down during the celebrations, pointing out that enemies often try to take advantage of these times.
“I can promise you that we will always be on guard, especially during this time of year when people are celebrating. We know that the threats want us to let our guard down.
“But we’re not going to take it easy. He said, “Everything will be fine this Easter.”
Onoja talked on the ongoing work with US soldiers. He noted that the effects of the partnership might not be clear right away because of the nature of military operations, but he was sure that the benefits would become clear in the next weeks and months.
He stated that the U.S. support for Nigeria’s activities had been very helpful, especially in the areas of sharing intelligence and training. He also noted that the help was being given on good terms to make counter-threat operations stronger.
“You know they are giving us intelligence and training support, which we need,” he said. They are providing us it on extremely good terms. Because of privacy concerns, there are many things I can’t discuss.
He went on to say that the intelligence included information about where threats and hostile groups were located, and he stressed that Nigerian troops would act accordingly.
“We can only say that these things take time.” When we are doing military operations, there comes a time when things are in the works.
Onoja said, “You won’t see it right away, but in the next few months or weeks, you will feel the difference in the help that the U.S. is giving.”
On February 16, 2026, DHQ said that some 100 US military personnel and equipment had arrived at Bauchi Airfield.
The military high command said that the people who were in Nigeria were not combat troops and were only there to help with technological issues, train people, and give advice on counter-terrorism measures.
But since they were sent out, instability has continued to rise in many parts of the country, which makes people worry about how well the collaboration is working.
