Gunmen who took eight people from the Evangelical Church of West Africa (ECWA) in Omugo, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, are asking for N1 billion to let them go.
Toba Omole, the church’s Pastor-in-Charge, told reporters this, indicating that the victims are still being held days after the event.
Reports from Vanguard say that the pastor’s wife and other victims were stolen during a Sunday worship session. The attackers allegedly fired shots into the air, which scared the people in the church before they quickly took their victims away.
Omole stated that the kidnappers got in touch with the community yesterday, which let them talk to the prisoners for a short time before making their demand.
“We were able to hear from the people who were kidnapped this morning.” “I heard my wife’s voice and the voices of other people,” he claimed.
“About eight of them are still being held, and the kidnappers want N1 billion to let them go.”
He asked the Kwara State Government and the public for help, saying that the amount asked for is too much for the community to handle.
“This is way too much money for us to spend.” “We are asking for help and action, including efforts to negotiate their release,” he said.
The cleric said that security forces did respond, and that troops came to the village after the incident and gave them temporary protection.
“We thank the security officers who came by and stayed with us for a while to keep the peace in the community,” he said.
He did, however, advocate for a continued police presence, saying that neighbors are still worried because the victims are still being held.
The event has made people in the region more worried, and they are asking the authorities to work harder to make sure the abducted worshippers come home safely.
