The Ondo State Police Command said that a mother stopped a suspected child stealing attempt and that community members detained two suspects in Ogbagi Akoko.
The command claimed in a statement today that the event happened on March 22, 2026, after Mrs. Olanireti “F” reported it. The statement was signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh.
The statement says that the complainant had left her three-year-old kid, Alex Ayobami “M,” to his grandmother’s house when a worried neighbor saw something strange happening with the youngster and called the police.
The police said that Adefarati Idowu ‘M’ and Adepoju Babatunde ‘M’ were stopped while trying to escape on an unregistered Bajaj motorcycle with the youngster.
It went on to say that the child’s grandmother, Mrs. Olawale “F,” stopped the motorcycle and other locals joined in to stop the suspects from getting away, which led to their arrest.
The statement claimed, “The child was successfully rescued unharmed,” and that the culprits were caught thanks to the combined efforts of community members and the police.
The command claimed that the matter had been sent to headquarters for a “discreet and thorough investigation.” They also said that they were still looking for any larger criminal network that might be connected to the incident.
Adebowale Lawal, the Commissioner of Police, praised the community for being watchful and acting quickly.
The statement continued, “This event shows how important community policing is and how important it is for citizens to help security agencies.”
The leadership told parents and guardians to stay alert and told the public to tell security services about any suspicious activity.
It said again that it was committed to protecting lives and property and promised communities that it would keep working to stop crime throughout the state.
