The event coincides with rising tensions in the continuing confrontation between Iran, the US, and Israel. According to AFP, Saudi authorities claim the country has recently been the target of numerous strikes on civilian targets and energy facilities.
Iran’s military attaché, assistant military attaché, and three other diplomatic employees are among the impacted individuals, according to a statement from the Saudi Foreign Ministry.
According to the Saudi administration, the decision was made in response to Iran’s ongoing aggression on its territory.
Saudi stated that the attacks could worsen ties between the two nations, pointing out that the acts go against Islamic brotherhood.
It warned that there could be serious bilateral repercussions and characterized the attacks as a breach of international agreements and respect for state sovereignty.
The Ministry continued, “They also violate the Beijing Agreement, UN Security Council Resolution No. 2817, and contradict Islamic brotherhood and the values and principles of the Islamic religion that the Iranian side constantly speaks of, confirming that these are merely words not reflected by actions.”
Two drones attacked the US Embassy in Riyadh earlier this month; Iran was blamed for the attack.
According to Saudi officials, the unmanned aerial vehicles struck the diplomatic facility in the Diplomatic Quarter of the capital, resulting in structural damage and a small fire.
