At the CELAC–Africa High-Level Forum in Bogotá, Nigeria asked for more economic, cultural, and strategic cooperation between Africa and Latin America.
Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, spoke for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and said that the meeting was an important way for Global South countries to work together more closely in these uncertain times.
Tuggar praised Gustavo Petro for calling the summit at a crucial time in world affairs, saying that continuous global conflicts have far-reaching effects on underdeveloped countries.
He asked the countries that took part to work together to enhance stability and reduce shared risks. He also called for a more unified and powerful voice for the Global South in the changing global order.
The minister named education, energy, agriculture, solid minerals, and technology as important areas for cooperation, based on Nigeria’s needs. He underlined the importance of including everyone in new technologies like artificial intelligence and warned that developing regions should not be left behind.
Tuggar talked on Nigeria’s Technical Aid Corps program, which has helped Caribbean countries since 1987, and said that Nigeria is ready to build more ties in commerce, healthcare, culture, and climate resilience.
He talked about Nigeria’s economic possibilities and pointed out that it is Africa’s largest market. He also talked about chances in agriculture and agro-processing, as well as ongoing efforts to become self-sufficient in food by making more fertilizer.
He also stressed how important cultural exchange and the creative industry are for building relationships. He called for more cooperation in the arts, education, digital innovation, and the development of intellectual property.
Tuggar urged for collective action on climate change, healthcare access, and technology transfer to deal with global problems. He also repeated Nigeria’s position on stopping illegal financial flows and moving on with talks about historical reparations related to slavery and colonialism.
