Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai (retd.), who used to be the Chief of Army Staff, said yesterday that he shouldn’t be criticized for not releasing the identities of people who are funding terrorism in Nigeria.
The former COAS declared on Channels Television last night that the government knows where the money for the terrorists comes from.
Buratai remarked, “You can’t say I should be responsible for naming the people who fund terrorism.”
“It’s not just about saying names; those agencies know why the names aren’t being published. People need to take action; these people are still in society today and are known. I am responsible for several things that the Nigerian Army should be in charge of.
He also said that it was the government’s choice, not the army’s, to help Boko Haram militants who wanted to change their ways.
He went on to say, “Our first idea was to give them a deadline to give up in 2016. If they did, we would let them go and turn them over to the right agencies to get better.”
He also talked about the country’s security problems on the event and called for better intelligence to fix them.
He also asked the government to hire additional security guards to keep the country safer.
