The Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH) in Makurdi has reached a medical milestone by successfully fitting its first body-powered transhumeral prosthesis on Mrs. Blessing Agidi, a woman who survived an attack by Fulani herders.
The wife of the Tor Tiv, Her Royal Majesty, Prof. Felicia Ayatse, paid for the treatment that took place today. It is a big step forward for BSUTH in its attempts to provide better medical care, according to Vanguard.
Mr. Moses Tsenzughul, the Head of Public Relations at BSUTH, said that the hospital’s ability to provide healthcare services that meet worldwide standards is growing.
After the treatment, Chief Medical Director Dr. Stephen Hwande complimented Governor Hyacinth Alia for backing the improvements to hospital facilities. He said that BSUTH is becoming a hub for specialist medical care and possible medical tourism.
Dr. Hwande also praised Prof. Ayatse for her support, calling it a kind deed that will change the lives of disadvantaged people for the better.
The Ishk Tolaram Foundation (ITF), a non-governmental organization (NGO) located in Lagos, is working with BSUTH to make prosthetic services more available. More than 300 people have already signed up to help, and the hospital is hiring experts to set up a separate section for prosthetics.
Mrs. Agidi, who is from Logo Local Government Area, thanked her sponsor, the hospital management, and the medical team in an emotional way. “Thank you so much for giving me a fresh start. “I hope that more people in need will get the same kind of help to rebuild their lives,” she said.
BSUTH is dedicated to providing better treatment and enhancing the quality of life for people who have been affected by war or disability. This milestone shows that.
