A woman named Ifeoluwa filed for divorce from her husband Gabriel at Grade A Customary Court, Court 2, sitting at Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State. She accused him of not loving her, being irresponsible, and leaving her.
Saturday Tribune says that Ifeoluwa said that Gabriel, a prophet, left home for Lagos when their child was two months old, saying he needed to do his ministerial work there.
Ifeoluwa says that Gabriel used to go back and forth between Lagos and Ibadan, but then he stopped coming home or talking to her.
The plaintiff also said that the defendant wouldn’t pay her and that their child, who has sickle cell disease (SS), visits whenever he goes to town for their church program.
She also said that he ignored her when they met at a party.
Ifeoluwa also alleged that Gabriel has only sent their child N2,000 since he left home four years ago.
She said she wanted to leave her marriage to Gabriel behind and start over.
So, she begged the court to say that they are no longer married.
The plaintiff asked the court to give her custody of their child and to make her husband liable for his care, with a focus on his nutrition, education, and health care.
Even though he got court summonses, Gabriel didn’t show up in court.
Ifeoluwa claimed in her testimony, “My husband is a prophet.” We met, dated, and got married in April 2022.
He told me he was moving to Lagos for his ministerial profession while our child was only two months old.
“Even if I didn’t agree with his choice, he still departed. At first, my husband was going back and forth between Lagos and Ibadan, but then he stopped coming home.
“He left me and our sickle cell patient child and stopped talking to me.
“He didn’t care as much about how our child and I were doing.
He never checked on us, even though he sometimes went to Ibadan to go to church events.
“I met my husband at a party once, and he ignored me.
“He didn’t care about our child’s well-being, even though he knew about his health problem.
“My husband has only sent N2,000 to help take care of our child since he left home four years ago.”
“My lord, it’s clear that my husband doesn’t love me anymore.” He isn’t interested in our marriage anymore either. I can tell that he doesn’t want to be married to me anymore.
“I ask that this honorable court end our relationship.”
“I beg for custody of our child so that I can give him the care he needs.
“I also ask that the court make my husband responsible for his own care, with feeding, education, and health care being the most important things.
“I demand N100,000 for the care of our child, who has sickle cell disease.”
Mrs. O. E. Owoseni, the president of the court, said in her decision that there was no marriage to end because there was no conventional marriage and the bride price had not been paid.
Owoseni went on to say that Gabriel has left home and won’t talk to her even when he sees her at an event. She believes this shows that he is no longer interested in their marriage either.
So, she told both sides to go their separate ways.
Owoseni told the defendant to give their child N50,000 a month to take care of him because his health is really bad and needs a lot of attention.
She told the defendant to pay close attention to their child’s schooling and nourishment as well.
