The Nigerian Air Force has revealed that one of its high-ranking officers won two awards at a big medical conference in the region. The Service called this another sign of its expanding professional brilliance.
The Air Force tweeted a statement on its official X handle on Monday with the headline, “NAF officer wins double honors at WACS conference, showcasing NAF professional excellence.”
The statement said, “The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has once again shown how strong its human capacity development drive is by Group Captain AO Akinuli’s amazing success at the West African College of Surgeons (WACS) Scientific Conference.”
The West African College of Surgeons put on the conference, which took place in Accra, Ghana, from February 8 to 12, 2026, under the Faculty of Dental Surgery.
Group Captain A.O. Akinuli, who is an expert in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, got the award after doing well on the 2025 Fellowship Examinations.
The NAF said that he is “a specialist in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery trained with NAF support.” They also said that “Gp Capt Akinuli distinguished himself in the 2025 Fellowship Examinations, reflecting the Service’s deliberate investment in excellence and advanced professional training.”
The Air Force said that “His accomplishment aligns with the command philosophy of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, which prioritizes continuous learning, competence, and mission-focused professionalism.” This links the achievement to the leadership vision.
Akinuli won two important awards at the conference.
The statement said that “Gp Capt Akinuli won two prestigious awards: the Prof Olayinka Otuyemi Prize for Best Dissertation Candidate in the 2025 Fellowship Examinations at first attempt, and the Prof Emmanuel Oladapo-Adekeye Prize for the Best Dissertation in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.”
The Air Force stressed that the achievement is more than just personal success. They said, “These double honors show that the Nigerian Air Force is an organization that encourages innovation, scholarship, and professional excellence, which strengthens its reputation for producing world-class personnel who are dedicated to service and national development.”
The release said that the breakthrough showed NAF’s ongoing commitment to advanced training and specialized education, making the Service not only a significant actor in national security but also a contributor to medical excellence in the West African sub-region.
