Kazeem Adebayo, 47, from Ijebu Igbo in Ogun State, was dating Abosede Adesanya, 30, a mother of five.
Amoke, Abosede’s 84-year-old mother, had just sold a plot of land so she could buy another one where she and her daughter could build a two-bedroom flat.
Adebayo was one of the people who signed the papers for the land sale. He later offered to help them find a nice place to buy.
Adebayo had a nasty scheme that they didn’t know about.
He told Abosede to bring ₦530,000, which was the money from the sale of the land, to his house.
He hit her on the head with a hefty pestle when she got there. Abosede screamed in pain and subsequently died from her injuries.
Adebayo killed her and then buried her in a shallow grave in his chamber. He paid off a debt with ₦30,000 of the money and stashed the rest in his ceiling.
When Abosede didn’t come home that night, her mother got anxious and contacted Adebayo, who said he hadn’t seen her.
Amoke then told the police about the situation. While the investigation was going on, Adebayo kept saying he had nothing to do with it.
But thereafter, the Criminal Investigation Department in Ijebu Igbo took up the case.
Officers found Abosede’s body in a shallow grave after searching Adebayo’s chamber. This confirmed what they had feared.
