Abasiesebanga Ikoiwak, a 36-year-old lawyer from Nigeria, and five other people have been detained for allegedly killing her 41-year-old husband, Barrister Godwin Ikoiwak, in Akwa Ibom State.
According to a witness for the prosecution who testified in the Uyo High Court, the late Barrister did not know that the boy who had been living with him in his residence for years was his wife’s son since she had told him the child was her younger brother.
Barrister Sunny Anyanwu, a friend of the deceased, also testified in court. He said that Ikoiwak died after they talked on the phone and he told him he was having problems with his wife because she was cheating on him.
Barrister Anyanwu said that the dead man told him that he alerted his wife’s family about the situation and that they invited him to a meeting at their family compound in Nung Udoe Itak, Ikono LGA. He did not come back home alive.
Anyanwu, the seventh prosecution witness in the case, also alleged that the late Barrister told him that his wife was having sex with her former boss, Barrister C.I. Odoh, who was also a lawyer.
Ikoiwak told Anyanwu that his wife lived with a Catholic priest named Rev. Father Maurice Mbeke as a housekeeper. The priest got her pregnant, and they had a child who is now 19 years old and named after her maternal grandpa.
The prosecution team is led by Barr. Akwa Ibom State’s Director of Public Prosecutions. Joseph Umoren showed the audio evidence, which was played in front of everyone in court.
