The Super Eagles’ third-place result at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) has been commended by the federal government, which claims that the accomplishment is a credit to the team’s diligence and “Nigeria’s rich football tradition.”
“Super Eagles, congratulations.” In a statement released late yesterday, Idris Mohammed, Minister of Information and National Orientation, congratulated you for winning the bronze medal at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations on behalf of the Federal Government and all Nigerians.
“Our country was proud and delighted by your performance during the event. With courage, talent, and tenacity, you have preserved Nigeria’s illustrious football heritage.
“You demonstrated bravery, solidarity, and faith in one another from the group stages till the final whistle in Casablanca. Millions of Nigerians both at home and abroad were inspired by you; you did more than just play.
“A Fighting Spirit Unbroken”
The day’s hero was goalie Stanley Nwabali, who stopped two vital penalty kicks in the penalty shootout against the Egyptian Pharaohs.
Ademola Lookman took advantage of Nwabali’s saves to convert the game’s final penalty kick and give Nigeria the victory in Casablanca yesterday after the game had ended in a draw after ninety minutes.
According to Mohammed, the Super Eagles’ victory has added to Nigeria’s illustrious past in Africa’s top football league.
“You demonstrated discipline and an unwavering fighting spirit in the way you competed, especially against strong teams,” he remarked.
“Thank you for your commitment and sacrifice, coaches, support staff, and all of the players that wore the green and white uniform. You persevered through difficulties and gave every pitch your all.
The minister assured the players that “this bronze medal is earned with dignity and effort” despite Nigeria’s devastating semi-final penalty shootout loss to Morocco on Wednesday.
He declared, “It belongs not only to you but to every Nigerian who supported, encouraged, and believed in you throughout this competition.”
Nigeria currently has nine bronze medals at the AFCON, the most of any nation, following the victory. Additionally, they have won all of the tournament’s third-place matches.
