Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner said today that he will depart from the Premier League club upon the expiration of his contract at the season’s conclusion.
The Austrian guided the Eagles to their inaugural major prize by securing the FA Cup last season, according to AFP.
Glasner, who secured the Europa League title with Eintracht Frankfurt in 2022, has been associated with managerial positions at Manchester United and Tottenham.
“A decision was made months ago,” Glasner stated at a press conference prior to Palace’s upcoming match against Sunderland tomorrow.
“In October, during the international break, I convened with Palace chairman Steve Parish.”
“We engaged in an extensive discussion, during which I informed him that I would not endorse a new contract.”
The 51-year-old arrived at Selhurst Park in February 2024 and led Palace to escape relegation, with a 10th-place finish.
In the previous season, they concluded in 12th place but achieved what may be considered the club’s most significant moment by defeating Manchester City 1-0 at Wembley to secure the FA Cup.
This won European qualification for the first time in the club’s existence; nevertheless, they were relegated from the Europa League to the Conference League due to a violation of multi-club ownership regulations.
Glasner has repeatedly expressed his dissatisfaction this season with the limited size of his squad, and they have fatigued in recent weeks following a promising beginning to the campaign.
Palace has not secured a victory in their last nine matches, ending in a humiliating FA Cup elimination by sixth-tier Macclesfield last weekend.
Glasner also affirmed that club captain Marc Guehi is poised for a transfer to Manchester City.
Nevertheless, he vowed to use all effort to achieve additional success in the Conference League before to his departure.
“I am merely seeking a new challenge,” stated the Palace manager.
“I have not engaged in discussions with any other club; I informed the players of this and assured them that I will endeavor to provide the most successful season in Crystal Palace’s history, achieving the highest points total ever.”
