People say that the Abubakar Imam Urology Centre in Kano was careless with Aishatu Umar’s care and caused her death.
According to Daily Trust, Abubakar Muhammad, the deceased’s husband, said that his wife died because of problems that arose during a surgery at the institution.
It was learned that she died early yesterday morning. After surgery, it was said that scissors were left in her stomach.
Muhammad told our reporter that the dead person had surgery at the health center in September after getting sick a few months previously.
He added that after the surgery, she started to have acute discomfort in her stomach.
He said, “Every time she went back to the hospital to complain, they only gave her pain medicine and didn’t look into it any further.” “Their usual response was to say that the pain was normal for people who had surgery, but they never suggested an x-ray or any other kind of scan,” the husband stated.
Muhammad said the discomfort lasted for almost four months, until tests and scans were finally done at Muhammad Abdullahi Wade Specialist Hospital and Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital.
They said that the results showed that a pair of surgical scissors had been left within her body during the operation in September.
Reports say that work was being done to do a corrective surgery to take out the object, but Umar died before the surgery could be done.
The husband called the act “gross negligence” and said it had not only caused his family a lot of pain, but it had also raised major questions about the quality of care in the healthcare system.
“We know that death is unavoidable, but we can’t understand how such a mistake could happen during surgery. Muhammad stated, “Things like this make people less trusting of doctors and hospitals.”
He told the state government and the right regulatory bodies to look into the situation fully and take the right steps, saying that justice must be done.
As of the time this story was written, the hospital’s management had not yet made an official statement about the claims.
The Kano Hospitals Management Board said, “We will look into it very carefully.”
The Kano State Hospitals Management Board, on the other hand, demanded a full and quick investigation into the matter.
Dr. Mansur Mudi Nagoda, the Board’s Executive Secretary, made the order today. He said that the investigation is meant to find out the facts and circumstances of the case.
“We send our heartfelt sympathies to her family and friends. The statement went on to say, “The investigation will be open, fair, and professional, and appropriate actions will be taken in accordance with established rules if any negligence is found.”
The Board promised the public that patient safety is still its top concern and that it will continue to provide the best possible healthcare in Kano.
