Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Osun State chapter claimed today that the national leadership crisis and pending court issues had compelled the party to suspend its governorship primary slated for tomorrow.
Sunday Bisi, state chairman, told journalists in Osogbo that Governor Ademola Adeleke had been cleared by the screening committee on October 30 after submitting his nomination and expression of interest forms, but the primary election could not be held due to outside events.
Bisi told The Guardian that the national party leadership crisis escalated during pre-primary procedures, according to The Guardian.
He said the suspension and counter-suspension of key national officers and individuals “statutorily central to the conduct of congresses, primaries, and the transmission of our candidate’s name to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)” caused uncertainty that affected the scheduled exercise.
He stated that the turmoil prevented the statutory ad-hoc ward and local government congresses on November 24 and 29 to elect primaries delegates.
“These congresses elect primaries delegates. As you know, the concerns causing these disruptions are before courts nationwide, Bisi remarked.
In light of the above, the PDP governorship primaries set for Tuesday, December 2, 2025, must be canceled.
For the record, Governor Ademola Adeleke is the only aspirant who purchased, submitted, and was duly screened according to the party’s official timetable.
He said Adeleke “may not, any longer, be interested in seeking the PDP nomination for the 2026 Osun Gubernatorial Election, except a resolution recognized by INEC is reached within the INEC timeline.”
Bisi said the state chapter owes Osun’s openness, even though the PDP National Secretariat runs governorship primaries.
We should inform our members and the public of these developments as a party focused on transparency and trust, he said.
