In a heavyweight title match, Mikel Merino saved Arsenal as the Premier League leaders fought to a 1-1 draw with 10-man Chelsea.
According to AFP, Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo was sent off in the 38th minute at Stamford Bridge for a brutal tackle on Merino that hit the midfielder on the ankle.
Trevoh Chalobah gave Chelsea the lead in the 48th minute after Reece James’ corner, even though Caicedo was sent off.
However, Arsenal survived a brutal match between the title rivals thanks to Merino’s close-range header from Bukayo Saka’s cross in the 59th minute.
Arsenal is six points ahead of third-place Chelsea and five points ahead of second-place Manchester City, who defeated Newcastle on Saturday.
Although Chelsea’s aggressive performance indicated they would become the greatest threat to the Gunners’ title hopes, the Gunners are still the favorites to win the Premier League for the first time since 2004.
Chelsea has gone seven games without a loss across all competitions, while Arsenal hasn’t lost in 17 games overall, winning 14 of them.
