At yesterday’s well-attended Accord Party meeting in Keffi, party stakeholders formally recognized Prof. Chris Imumolen as party leader, whose position is supported by a Federal High Court ruling, and declared the suspension of the faction commanded by Barr. Maxwell Mgbudem.
Ambassador Kabiru Hassan presides over the gathering, which according to the Daily Independent, drew members from each of the 36 state chapters.
After the discussions, Hassan informed the press that all parties involved had agreed to suspend Barr. Max Mgbudem—who had been acting as National Chairman—and his deputy for what they claimed were anti-party conduct.
The officials in question were allegedly “working with enemies of the party to undermine its interests,” as stated by the stakeholders. The group allegedly “collected money to endorse APGA candidate Soludo against the values of the party, knowing full well that Soludo was working with the APC,” so the accusers went. “It would have been even better if they had endorsed Nicolas Ukachukwu, the APC candidate,” they stated.
Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is supposedly interested in the Accord platform, was further warned by party leaders to watch his friends and allies.
In order to “avoid risking litigation that could jeopardize his ambition,” they urged Adeleke to “join the Accord led by Chris Imumolen” and emphasized that “Max Mgbudem is not the chairman but Chris Imumolen, who is the Accord National Chairman.”
