SHOCKER: Liberia’s new president suffers stroke on inauguration day •Swearing-in ends abruptly

Yesterday In Monrovia, Liberia, there was a small amount of drama as Joseph Boakai, the country’s newly elected president, suffered a heart attack and was unable to finish his inauguration speech.

The 79-year-old Joseph Boakai was led out of the ceremony, which ended early, by aides, according to the BBC.

 

But first, he was sworn in as the nation’s president with the task of combating corruption and poverty after defeating former football player George Weah in the election.

In the run-off election in November, the 79-year-old barely defeated former Ballon d’Or winner Weah, receiving 50.64 percent of the vote to 49.36 percent.
