I Cried on the Federal Roads From Abuja To Benin Because Of The Plight Of Nigerians – Umahi
On Tuesday, Minister of Works Dave Umahi said he had cried while driving from Abuja to Benin via the Lokoja road because of the suffering of Nigerians on federal roads.
This is in line with his earlier statement that no federally maintained road has a lifespan of more than seven years.
He proclaimed, “There is not a single project being built in Nigeria right now that will last for seven years.”
His recent cross-country road inspection tour, he said, provided the data for the decision.
Umahi claims that some roads have deteriorated to the point where they are filled with “boreholes.”
Umahi, who has long been critical of contractors for their subpar work, recently vented his frustrations about the widespread practise of overcharging Nigerians for the materials they use to build roads.
On Tuesday, he was at the ministry headquarters in Abuja, where he gave a speech to contractors from all six regions.
