Lockdown: Kano clerics demand Govt stand on Eid Prayers

The Council of Ulamas in Kano has demanded clear position of the State government on whether the forthcoming Eid Prayers will hold across the state.

A communiqué issued at the end of the Council’s emergency meetings held at the Council’s Secretariat in Kano on Friday, stressed the need by “the state government to make its stand clear to the public on the issue of the Eid prayers, whether it will hold or not as many people have been asking questions on the issue.”

The Influential Mullahs stated the importance of continues prayers and total submission to the will of Allah in constant seeking for forgiveness are also highlighted by the communiqué as some of the important things that the community ought to indulged in to address the pandemic, adding that the nation really need a divine intervention as the case of COVID-19 keeps increasing.

The Ulamas also demanded the state government to conduct a forensic investigation on the mass deaths currently being experienced in the state and to make the it’s findings public as well as take necessary actions in addressing the situation.

The communiqué signed by the Council’s Chairman Sheikh Ibrahim Khalil had observed that there is an urgent need for the public to know the cause of the recent mass deaths as it also observed that, people are usually disrespecting the social distance rules, especially during funeral activities.

The clerics frowned at the nonchalant attitude of citizens to their safety especially during the lockdown free days as people have been throwing caution to the wind by flouting health and safety guidelines that can make them susceptible getting infected by the virus.

The communiqué then advised the state government to look into the lockdown-free days provision with a view to exact control on overcrowding and other unhealthy attitudes that may aide the spread of the virus among innocent people.

The communiqué also called on the state government to engage religious readers, the business community and other relevant bodies with a view to finding solutions to present economic hardship being faced by many people in the state.(Daily Independent)
