Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the former governor of Kano, has confirmed that he has been offered a position in President Bola Tinubu’s administration as a minister or something similar.
Report says that Kwankwaso was in the presidential villa yesterday, continuing his discussion with the president on the matter as well as other issues, including the ongoing rift between Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and former governor Abdullahi Ganduje.
In an interview with BBC Hausa today, Kwankwaso stated that the role he will play in the government is in its final stages of discussion, and that he will make the necessary statement in a few days, when the discussion must have concluded.
He stated, “We are awaiting the next week’s inauguration of the tenth National Assembly.” Indications are strong that I will be given ministerial responsibilities or something similar. However, this will be confirmed after the 10th National Assembly is inaugurated. I will not elaborate at this time because we are still discussing the issue and will soon reach a conclusion.
“The president has suggested that I serve in his government as a minister or in another capacity, but no decision has been made on this matter.” Soon, we will reach a conclusion and make a statement regarding this matter.
“I also had a lengthy discussion with the president about the political situation in Kano, particularly the recent decision by Kano’s governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, to demolish unauthorized structures in several locations in Kano. Unfortunately, the previous governor, Umar Ganduje, authorized the construction for whatever reason.
“I led him to believe that the majority of the information he was being fed was false, and I provided him with accurate information that persuaded him that the former governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, made numerous mistakes and took steps to enrich himself and his friends rather than the majority of Kano people.
“We sounded the alarm when construction began and advised the governor to stop the work, citing the repercussions of some of his actions, but he failed to take action. It is regrettable that so many people were affected, but we must reclaim the land.”
