In Lagos, the Oodua group criticizes Afenifere for supporting the LP candidate

Following the endorsement of Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour in Lagos, the well-known pan-Yoruba group, Oodua Youth Parliament (OYP), has disowned the factional Afenifere group led by Supo Shonibare. According to the group, the Factional Afenifere group neither speaks for nor represents the Yoruba race. OYP scowled at factional Afenifere’s backing of Rhodes-Vivour and cautioned the faction to steer clear of Southwest Politics.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for governor of Lagos state, Babajide Sanwolu, has received the support of the Speaker of the OYP, Aare Abdulmajeed Oladimeji Oyeniyi, who promised to secure one million votes for him in the upcoming governorship election. He predicted that Vivour-Rhodes would lose the gubernatorial election to incumbent Lagos state Governor Sanwolu, just as the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, did in the recently held presidential election.

“It’s unfortunate that this factional Afenifere group, which is supposed to unite and ensure Yoruba victory in Lagos, is now supporting a Labour Party candidate in Lagos with a dubious identity,” says Aare Oyeniyi. Therefore, if they won’t defend Yoruba race interests, we advise them to stay away from southwest politics. This is utterly ridiculous. Have the Ohanaezes ever proclaimed for a Yoruba to rule Anambra or a Hausa to rule Imo state in Igbo land’s history?

Therefore, the factional Afenifere are being warned by Oodua youths to avoid southwest politics and avoid making things more difficult for us. Pa Fashoranti is the leader of the authentic Afenifere, which is well known in Yoruba land. As a result, we hereby reaffirm our complete support for Governor Sanwolu.
