The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has redeployed 11 Assistant Comptroller Generals (ACG) and 30 State Comptrollers.

NIS Comptroller General of Immigration, Isah Jere Idris, who approved the immediate redeployment of the 41 senior officers, admitted that it was done ahead of the presidential and National Assembly elections taking place next weekend.

A statement by its Public Relations Officer, Tony Akuneme (a Comptroller of Immigration), said the redeployment affected 11 Assistant Comptrollers General (AGCs) in charge of the various zones across the country.

The statement said 30 Comptrollers were posted to new states, especially those sharing borders with African countries.

Akuneme explained that the posting order was signed on behalf of the Comptroller General by the Deputy Comptroller General in charge of Human Resources, Usman Babangida.

The NIS spokesman said the affected states are Yobe, Adamawa, Sokoto, Katsina, Zamfara, Oyo, Lagos (Seme Border) and Cross River.

Other states that are getting new Comptrollers include Gombe, Kaduna, Kano, Plateau, Bauchi, Nassarawa, Edo, Bayelsa, Rivers (Marine Command), Anambra, Enugu, as well as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), among others, Akuneme said.

The NIS spokesman said the deployments were with immediate effect, adding that the CGIS placed a high premium on the critical role of personnel in the success of the forthcoming general election.
