President Muhammadu Buhari said he criticises the elite class in the country because they have over the years been selfish in their approaches, never considering ways to move the country forward.

Buhari spoke at the Katsina State Government House, Katsina during a lunch hosted by the State Government in his honour.

The President, who is on a two-day working visit to the State, had spent the first day going through the length and breadth of the state capital to commission some of the legacy projects of the Aminu Masari-led administration.

Buhari lamented what he called the selfish attitude of many Nigerians, counseling that if they think more of the people, things will be much better in the country.

The President regretted the resources wasted instead of being used for the provision of infrastructure under previous administrations, during which time, he recalled a barrel of crude oil sold consistently for $100.

Drawing a comparison between 1999/2015 and 2015/2023, he said: “Our elites did not put their heads together in the years past in order to move the country forward. They were very selfish. I insist that they should think of the country more than themselves. By doing so, they can join forces for the good of the country.”

The President, who hailed Katsina Governor Aminu Masari, for delivering dividends of democracy to this people through the execution of meaningful projects, underscored the importance of infrastructure to ant society.

Commenting on the construction of a rail line from Katsina to Maradi in Niger Republic, the President said all countries must strengthen ties with their neighbours for mutual benefits.

Among the projects inaugurated by President on Thursday, were Kofar Laura underpass and water booster station, Katsina Revenue House, Darma Rice Mill Limited and the Katsina general hospital.

He will inaugurate more projects on Friday as he rounds off his official visit to his home State.
