Ondo ex-militants reject Ogunmola’s nomination as NDDC EDP

Former Niger Delta warlords in Ondo State have rejected the nomination of Mr. Charles Ogunmola as Executive Director, Projects on the Governing Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and the three Senators representing the State in the National Assembly, last week, voiced their opposition to the nomination of Ogunmola.

A major reason adduced for rejecting the nomination was because he (Ogunmola) is not from the oil-producing area of the State.

The ex-militants said the nomination of Ogunmola could threaten peace in oil producing communities in the State.

They hailed Akeredolu for supporting the rejection of Ogunmola’s nomination despite being his kinsman from Owo local government.

The ex-militants in a statement by Gen Job Omotuwa and Gen Ogailo Ibori, vowed to resist any attempt by any individual to deny Ondo oil producing communities their due.

They said the nomination of Ogunmola was against the NDDC Acts.

According to the statement, “Considering the fact that the state yearly budget is weakened by poor monthly allocation from the federation account, the position of EDP for Ondo State on the board will go a long way in addressing the developmental deficiency in the area and also enhance the lives of our people positively.

“We appealed to the Senate President, Sen. Ahmed Lawan to strictly adhered to the tenets of the Act that established the NDDC during the screening exercise and confirmation of the board members.

“We beg President Mohammed Buhari to kindly reverse Ogunmola nomination and replace it with an indigene from an oil-producing area and forward same to the Senate for confirmation.”
