EDITORIAL: Fuel Scarcity: DSS Noble Intervention and The Femi Falana Foolishness…
By Chris Paul Otaigbe
The State Security Service (SSS) or Department of State Security ((DSS) or by what name, Nigeria’s Secret Service chooses to be called; have always been in the news for the wrong reasons.
But their recent intervention, in the senseless scarcity of fuel, as occasioned by NNPC and their collaborators in the private sector, is one for which they must be COMMENDED.
The 48- hour ultimatum they gave NNPC and their accomplices was clearly meant to reset the brains of the anti-Nigeria economic criminals; and bring some relative peace and order back to the downstream sector.
I watched the Press conference addressed by the Service’s Spokesperson, Afunanya.
The gentleman laid out the issues, defined the case and it made sense; thus giving credibility to their intervention; this time around.
So, if you are experiencing relative ease, in buying your fuel, today, all thanks go to the men of the nation’s Secret Service.
However, Nigerians would have Femi Falana to blame, should the fraudulent players revert to the chaos; any time from now.
Why?
Falana’s dramatic intervention, in his interview on Channels breakfast show, immediately after the DSS ultimatum, shows that he DOESN’T support the Service’s noble meddling in the criminal activities of the sector’s players.
His argument against the DSS ultimatum may be used as the excuse by the fuel distributors to return to the ANARCHY they created for their individual PROFITING! That is my worry; as well, you SHOULD be WORRIED too.
I don’t want to bore you with the details of that annoying interview; because, I couldn’t bear to watch it till the end; myself. It offended the Patriot in me.
But I have this to say to him…
‘I agree with you that it is not the business of the State Security Service to dabble into downstream issues.
But where the ILLICIT transactions are threatening to push Nigerians into the streets to protest a MANIFEST criminality in the petrochemical distribution subsector; thereby threatening the FRAGILE peace of a dying nation… Is it Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) that will SAVE the country from total collapse into anarchy? Or, the security Agencies?
Were the great Gani Fawehinmi to be alive today, he would praise the DSS for coming to the rescue of a nation under the control of a scandalously clueless leadership; peopled by kindergarten minds and BIG HIPs.
Thank God, for a time such as this; where Nigerians have woken up; to know who is on their side and who is on the side of the enemies of their country.
On this fuel issue, the voice you raised against the State Security Service has clearly EXPOSED you; as a member of the OPPORTUNISTIC elite; holding this nation down.
You even implied, that so long as Nigerians can get the fuel, even if they get it at N300-500, it doesn’t matter.
So, left to you, the DSS should have ALLOWED that DEMONIC arrangement to continue.
In other words, while the State Security Service is fighting TO ENSURE poor Nigerians get the fuel at the old but far cheaper rate, in an ordered arrangement, you believe Nigerians should CONTINUE to SUFFER STUPID and WICKED price increases; so long as fuel availability is not an issue.
The problem, here, Mr. Falana, is that you can’t proclaim legal righteousness; in the guise of human rights activism; in one breath; and, in another, gleefully DINE with devils and demons AGAINST the people; in the guise of practicing Law or pushing advocacy for the Rule of Law.
You see, where Nigeria stands today, you are EITHER on the side of GOOD, or you are on the side of EVIL.
It’s a choice; Nigerians are watching; and history is TAKING NOTES!
