Gunmen abduct Kwara cleric, son, demand N100m ransom
Gunmen on Saturday abducted a cleric, Sofiu Amolegbe, and his son, Aliyu, in Oko-Olowo, in the Ilorin area of Kwara State.
The gunmen, who invaded the cleric’s residence to perpetrate the crime, reportedly shot a sibling, Fasasi.
Narrating the incident, the cleric’s father said the kidnappers, who thought Fasasi had died, whisked his son and grandson to an undisclosed location.
He said after the kidnappers left, Fasasi was rushed to an undisclosed hospital where he had been recuperating, adding that the kidnappers were demanding N100m ransom to release the abducted victims.
He said, “The kidnappers have contacted us and they are asking for N100m ransom. We have begged them to accept N10m from us even though we don’t have the money.
“I am appealing to the state government and men of goodwill to assist us in getting my two sons out of the den of the kidnappers,” the grandfather said.
Contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Okasanmi Ajayi, said two suspects had been arrested in connection with the crime.
