Army officers of 21-Armoured Brigade, Bama, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), have cleared off over a dozen Boko Haram terrorists in the Kumshe-Banki axis of Borno State.

In yesterday’s failed ambush along the 54-kilometre Bama-Banki road the insurgents were killed.

A counter-insurgency expert in the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, confirmed, yesterday, in Maiduguri that the troops’ patrol operations along the road paid off by killing about two dozens of terrorists.

On the foiled ambush, he said: “The terrorists detonated an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and followed with continuous gunshots,” adding that the gallant soldiers responded by repelling the insurgents to flee with gunshot wounds.

He, noted that the troops did not incur many casualties, as few soldiers sustained wounds with the destruction of a military patrol vehicle.

MEANWHILE, one person has been feared killed by gunmen suspected to be herdsmen in Jol community, Riyom Council of Plateau State on Monday.

According to a source from a Non– Governmental Organisation (NGO), Emancipation Centre for Crisis Victims in Nigeria (ECCVN), Dalyop Mwantiri, the bandits mobilised themselves with dangerous weapons and attacked residents of Darwat hamlet of the community.

The suspected herdsmen claimed that their action was informed by the apprehension of one Fulani herdsman, who was said to have grazed into over 10 farms.

As a result, the suspected herdsmen got angry and reportedly beat and killed one Davou Nwatep, aged 32, while one Dachomo Ishaya sustained serious injuries in his two hands, and was rushed to a hospital for medical attention.

On hand to douse the tension and arrest the situation were personnel of the state Operation Rainbow, alongside local security outfits.

The Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), a special military taskforce deployed to the state to restore law and order, as well as maintain peace from sector six, in Riyom, was quickly informed about the development, and they quickly mobilised troops there.

According to local sources: “There is tension in the affected area, which informs the presence of OPSH operatives

“The incident precedes last night’s invasion of villages in Mangor Community of Bokkos Council, where over 20 houses were torched by Fulani militia that stormed the area after killing four in Batura Community of the Council,” Mwantiri stated.

The affected villagers are calling for drastic security measures to de-radicalise the bandits.
