Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has banned public officials serving under his government from making public donations in public functions.
He announced the ban on Sunday during the 2nd Session of the 5th Synod of the Diocese of Amichi.
Soludo explained that the directive was borne out of his administration’s proactive effort to fight corruption, saying that it is also for the sake of probity and transparency in line with stipulated codes of conduct.
He drew the attention of the church to the unfortunate threat of idolatry which he noted, is gradually having grip across the region.
The governor said: “The body of Christ, being one, should synergize and tackle the common threat, because if the church as an institution is muscled out by promoters of idolatry, nobody will be safe anymore.
“Everyone should join hands to address the issues of security and environment.”
The Synod, which took place at St Peter’s church, Amich Nnewi South Local Government Area, had as theme; “Strangers and Pilgrims in the World: Our Christian Status”. It was presided over by Rt. Revd. Ephraim Ikeakor.
