Edo PDP Chieftain shot by Gunmen in Benin

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, Isaiah Adanagbe, escaped assassination by whiskers, as he was reportedly shot by gunmen in a popular drinking spot around Oza street, off Sokponba Road, Benin City on Thursday night.

Reports had it that Adanagbe, who is the Secretary of the party in Ward 9, Oredo Local Government Area of the state was allegedly short at the drinking spot where he normally relaxed every night.

An eyewitness told DAILY INDEPENDENT that the shooting incident has a political undertone because according to him, to “Adanagbe has been very active politically and also in the social media.

“He is the secretary ward 9 in Oredo. He came to this joint last night as usual and discussions started with everybody, airing their opinions when suddenly he was attacked by people we thought are customers, he was beaten mercilessly and then they shot him in the leg and went away.

“People came to rescue him and he has been rushed to the hospital for treatment and the family members have gone to report the incident at the police station.”

When contacted, Edo police public relations officer, Bello Kontong said he was yet to receive the report. (Daily Independent)
