No fewer than six persons have been feared killed in Ekwulobia, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State.

This followed a gun battle between security operatives and some gunmen.

An eyewitness, who spoke with The Nation on Monday, said one of her cousins was killed during the shootings

The source further said the gun battle between security operatives and the gunmen lasted for over one hour from around 6.30 to 7 pm on Sunday.

She said: “It was like a war zone. In the process, about seven persons were killed, including about three Policemen ”

Anambra Police spokesman Ikenga Tochukwu confirmed there was a gun battle between security operatives and some hoodlums.

He said the security operatives repelled the attack on police station at Ekwulobia while three of the hoodlums were killed

At Neni, Anaocha local government area, the hoodlums, according to him, ran away because they couldn’t withstand the shooting power of the security operatives

Tochukwu however denied any security operative died in the shout-out but said no arrest had been made to that effect.

The police spokesman said no station was torched because of the gallantry of the security operatives with at Ekwulobia and Neni respectively

He said: “We are still investigating the matter and equally, on the trail of the hoodlums. They met the superior shooting power of the security operatives.

“Three of them were gunned down, while the others fled when it was becoming difficult for them. This command will no longer tolerate the activities of hoodlums,” Tochukwu said. (The Nation)
