Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara has appointed an additional 250 political posts to help governability in the state.

The Director General for Political Affairs and Inter-Party Relations Mikailu Aliyu made the revelation while addressing reporters in Gusau on Wednesday.

Mr. Aliyu said that the rationale behind the appointment was to ensure that good governance reached the grassroots and communities.

He said that since the start of the administration, the governor had appointed 25 commissioners, 55 special advisers, 72 CEOs and 12 board members.

He said the 250 political appointees included eight CEOs and 242 senior special assistants, bringing the total number of political appointees in the state to 1,700.

The CEO also dismissed the accusation that the state government was persecuting a certain Shamsu Shehu, president of Marafa Social Media, describing the accusation as “baseless.”

He said that the Matawalle administration was a peace-loving one that allows freedom of expression and political association among the citizens of the state.
