FG to go after alleged sponsors of violence in North

The Federal Government may have concluded plans to isolate and bring to justice alleged sponsors of insecurity in some parts of the North, investigations have revealed.

Reports over the weekend had alleged plots by two governors from the North, among other highly-placed politicians, to foist a regime of fear and uncertainty on the troubled region, ahead of the 2023 general elections.

It was further reported that the agenda was to portray the government as weak, and incapable of discharging the constitutional burden of protecting the lives and property of citizens.

Highly-placed establishment sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity with this newspaper, said relevant security agencies have since been directed to frustrate the plan to instigate civil disobedience across the North.

Consequently, the sources disclosed that all those identified as sponsors and promoters of the plot, have been placed under surveillance and will soon be picked up and made to face the full weight of the law.

“It is no longer a hidden secret that some highly-placed individuals and opposition politicians in the North of the country are bent on exacerbating the security situation in that region. Of course, no responsible government will tolerate that kind of tendency, which is clearly aimed at discrediting the government at the centre, with the sponsors as ultimate beneficiaries.

“To frustrate the plot, the military and security agencies have been put on alert, and no stone will be left unturned to ensure there is no conflagration in the North. Nobody, no matter how highly or lowly placed, should be allowed the liberty of using violence as a tool to achieve their selfish political agenda.

“So, let those sponsoring violent attacks on communities in the North West, especially, retrace their steps, to allow for peace, security and order in the part of the country,” one of the sources advised.

The North West, and some parts of the North East, have witnessed an upsurge in violent crimes, occasioned by terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping, resulting in killings of scores of armless citizens
