Two of the bandits who have been terrorising residents of Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State have been killed in a gun duel with police operatives.

They were intercepted by the operatives attached to Mopol 47 Zaria while on patrol around Riheyi village within Fatika district of Giwa LGA on Monday evening.

Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mohammed Jalige, told Channels Television that the encounter resulted in a heavy gun duel but the police operatives displayed gallantry, fired precision, and successfully neutralised the two bandits.

He said that an AK-47 rifle loaded with 10 rounds of live ammunition and an operational motorcycle were recovered from the bandits during the operation.

In his reaction, the Commissioner of Police, Mudassiru Abdullahi, commended the officers for their display of professionalism and courage to achieve the desired result.

While tasking all operational commanders to imbibe the culture of rigorous patrols in all nooks and crannies within their areas of jurisdiction, the commissioner asked them to be vigilant and proactive during the yuletide period.

The police commissioner equally warned police operatives against dereliction of their duties, vowing to deal with any erring officer. (Channels TV)
