A Professor of Political Science and International Relations, Femi Mimiko, has called for the immediate review of Nigeria’s political structure to allow those with genuine interest attain power.

Mimiko who is a guest lecturer at a public lecture held in Akure to mark the fifth anniversary of an online newspaper, “The Precision”, said the Nigerian state as presently constituted lacks the capability to deliver on set goals.

In his lecture titled, “Tottering on the brink of collapse: Is Restructuring the way out of Nigeria’s extant Crises”, the former university administrator stressed the need for urgent restructuring of the country.

He said: “It is quite unfortunate that life has lost its value in Nigeria as some parts are now out of the hands of government officials.

“Looking at the economic, security and educational dimensions among others to the Nigerian challenge, Prof. Mimiko said the country must get its leadership recruitment process right, review political structures among others.” 

The event held at Adesuper Hotel, Akure, was graced by members of the press, lecturers and some prominent people in the society.

Its publisher, Mr. Olusegun Hakeem Adebumiti, said the five years journey has been rough but acknowledged that it has been worthwhile.

Chairman of the occasion, Dr. Bode Ayorinde congratulated the Publisher even as he explained that the online medium has one way or the other benefited the public.

“We are in the Era of Digital now, and Precision has proved himself worthy in dissemination of news, information which are authentic and not biased,” he said.

Commenting on the lecture, Ayorinde who is the Pro-Chancellor of Achievers University, Owo called for the unbundling of the federal system for effective performance of component units.

Highlight of the event includes presentation of awards to prominent personalities including Hon. Babatunde Faro, HRM Oba David Olajide, the Iresi of Osi, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, the Commander, Ondo State Amotekun Corps and Alhaja Ceenat Titilayomi Anifowose, a retired principal, Akure Muslim College.
