Kwankwasiya group suffers setback in Kano

The Kwankwasiyya Political Movement in Kano State has suffered yet another setback as it lost one of its chieftains to the Gandujiyya Political Ideologue.

The defector, a lawmaker representing Kano in the State House of Assembly, from Kano Municipal, disembarked from the Kwankwasiyya Political train, during the formal launch/flag-off of the state agricultural intervention programme, he knelt before Ganduje and removed the symbolic Kwankwasiyya red cap.

During the occasion, where Ganduje empowered about 16, 010 farmers, Alhaji Baba’s red cap was replaced with a green cap after a symbolic “political cleansing.”

Alhaji Baba, currently the House Committee Chairman on Agriculture, was a former chairman, Kano Municipal Local Government Area, when Senator Ibrahim Shekarau was Governor of the state.

The Kwankwasiyya, a strong political platform battling for the soul of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano is headed by former governor Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso. Gandujiyya, the face of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano, is led by the current governor and a foundation member of the Kwankwasiyya, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. Ganduje served two-terms as Deputy to Kwankwaso.

The duo parted ways, politically, in 2015, following alleged insistence of Kwankwaso to control the government of Ganduje, even after he had left office. However, since then, Ganduje had taken control of Kano’s political landscape, even after winning for a second-term in 2019, in the face of strong and confrontational opposition by the Kwankwasiyya movement.

Pundits believe that as the race for 2023 political struggle draws closer, the two political platforms are bound to experience heavy earthquake which would witness an array of stupendous defections. Reeling out the achievements of his administration in the last six years Dr. Ganduje, declared that his administration will continue to ensure that the ancient commercial city remains the most peaceful state in the country, devoid of insurgency, banditry, ethnic unrest and discrimination.

Ganduje who spoke during town hall meeting/presentations to mark his six year anniversary as well as to receive the defectors, described Kano as a mini-Nigeria where all residents are recognized as indigenes of the state. He said: “We promised that everybody is an indigene of Kano State.

No discrimination, no segregation. In Kano, no armed robbery, no ethnic problem, no banditry, no insurgency. Nigeria is one and in Kano we maintain this principle, because Kano is a mini-Nigeria where everybody is recognised as an indigene.”
