The management of FAD FM has confirmed the gruesome killing of its Efik language programme presenter, David Ekanem, popularly known as ‘Itiat Zion’ in Calabar, the capital of Cross River State.

Ekanem, who was also a renowned Efik and English event anchor, was stabbed and left to die by some hoodlums on Saturday at about 10 am while waiting to board a taxi.

The statement announcing his death is currently running on the Radio station in place of its popular Efik programme which was anchored by the late presenter.

A source told The Guardian that some hoodlums were beating up a woman and when he tried to intervened, they attacked and hacked him to death.

“Mr. David Ekanem aka ‘Itiat Zion’ was stabbed while asking a group of boys to stop manhandling a woman at Ikot Ansa,” the source said.

“They got angry that he asked them to stop beating the woman, so they stabbed him to death.”

Police spokesperson, DSP Irene Ugbo could not be reached to confirm the incident.

However, a staff of the station said “the family has informed the police of the incident, it is left for them to do their job.” (Text, excluding headline, courtesy The Guardian)
